Once you’re certified, you don’t need to earn PDUs to maintain your credentials. To maintain your CAPM, you must retake the exam every 5 years.
CompTIA project+ is a project manager certification conducted by the Computing Industry Association. This is for professionals who manage smaller and less complex projects, but have foundational project management skills. Project+ is more flexible than the other certifications since it covers project management concepts beyond the scope of just one framework.
There are no prerequisites required to apply for the CompTIA project+ exam. But it’s recommended to have at least one year of managing or participating in small to medium scope projects.
The Project+ exam consists of 100 questions to be answered within 1 hour and 30 minutes. Questions are based on these project lifecycle domains.
Another advantage of taking the Project+ exam is that this is a lifetime certification. Once you’re certified, you don’t need to renew it to maintain your credential.
The ILX Group introduces the Prince2 Foundation exam that will prove that you understand the Prince2 Method enough to work effectively as a project manager. This is also a prerequisite for the Practitioner certification.
This certification is meant for aspiring project managers or professionals who are currently handling project manager jobs. It also applies to other positions like project board members, team managers, project assurance, project support, operational line managers or staff.
Candidates for this certification should have enough understanding about project management, but there’s no formal prerequisite for the Foundation qualification.
The Prince2 Foundation exam consists of 60 questions to be answered within an hour. To pass, you must get at least 33 correct answers.
Prince2 certifications don’t expire. Only the status of being a Registered Practitioner has an expiration date. To renew, you must take the re-registration exam 3 years after passing the practitioner exam.

Applying for the PMP certification is an involved process. To apply for the PMP certification exam, you must complete the following prerequisites in addition to passing the certification exam.
Originally, there are two paths to qualify for the PMP certification which requires aspirants to obtain 4500-7500 hours of leading and directing projects. But just recently, PMI updated the PMP certification requirements and removed these required hours. They also added a new path which allows postgraduate aspirants to apply for the PMP certification with reduced requirements.
The PMP certification exam consists of 200 questions (only 175 will be graded) and you have 4 hours to complete it. To pass, you must answer at least 106 questions out of that 175 correctly.
Currently, the PMP certification exam is based on five domains: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. But the new exam content outline was released this year and will take effect starting on January 2, 2021.

To maintain your PMP certification, you need to earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) within 3 years after being PMP certified. Your certification and Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) cycle starts from the day you obtained your PMP certification.
The American Academy of Project Management (AAPM) modeled the Master Project Manager (MPM) certification. This is for professionals who are already experienced in project management but want to grow and improve their project management knowledge and skills.

To apply for the MPM certification, you must complete the following prerequisites.
The MPM certification exam consists of 20 questions and you only have 55 minutes to complete it. You must score at least 65% or above to pass the examination.
Delivered by the ILX Group, the Prince2 Practitioner certification is for all professionals who handle project manager jobs. This will prove that you have sufficient knowledge and understanding of project management to apply to different project environments and scenarios.

The Prince2 Practitioner certification exam consists of 68 questions. You’ll have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete it and you must get at least 38 correct answers to pass the exam.
This certification expires every 3 years. You need to retake the Prince2 Practitioner exam before the expiry date, or earn CPD points and a digital badge to maintain your certification.
If you choose the CPD route, you’ll need to purchase a subscription from My Prince2 which costs £50 + VAT annually.
The Program Management Professional (PgMP) by PMI is a globally recognized program management certification. This is for those who manage multiple related projects in a coordinated way.
It’s different from the PMP certification. PMP is for project managers, while PgMP is for program managers. PgMP will prove your advanced experience and skills which are beneficial for employment and promotion.
To apply for this project manager certification, you must complete either of these two paths.
There are two parts of the certification process: the application and panel review, and the examination proper.
There will be an initial evaluation through an extensive application review with a panel of program managers that will assess your program management experience. The next step will be the examination proper that will measure your competence through both situational and scenario-based questions.
The certification has 170 questions to be answered within 4 hours. After obtaining your certification, you’ll need to earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) every 3 years to maintain your credential.
The Certified Senior Project Manager by the International Association of Project Managers (IAPM) is for professionals who have knowledge and extensive practical experience in project management. The scope runs from the subject areas of the projects from initiation to closure, and people in projects from team building and management to conflict management and personal success.
To take this project manager certification, you need to have at least 5 years of experience in project management, in which 3 years must be in a management position or responsible for leadership function.
The CSPM certification exam consists of 120 questions to be answered within 80 minutes. You need to score at least 65% to pass the certification exam.
Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) from Scrum Alliance is an entry-level certification that provides professionals a deeper understanding of project manager jobs. This gives candidates more knowledge about the Scrum values, emphasizing teamwork, accountability and progress through a well-defined goal.
If you’re planning to take the CSM certification soon, you need to complete these requirements first.
The CSM exam consists of 50 questions to be completed within 1 hour. To pass, you must score at least 37 or higher.
